I think there is a fair amount of bipartisan support for tariffs on Chinese
Imports, and I’d argue that when all the dust settles, Trump’s greatest accomplishment from his first term, perhaps after Covid vaccines, is resetting our attitude towards China. Credit where due, I think it was long overdue.
However none of his other tariffs were necessary or remotely helpful to anyone at all. I think that’s where “Tariff Man” turned repub ideology on its head, and looks more like a run of the mill dem.
Both parties are protectionist at this stage - that had always been one of my main points of agreement with repub policy. No more - Trump commanded that they abandon that free market concept, and of course they obey.
